Week 1 Lab: Blood

LAB OVERVIEW

This Week:

The topic we will focus on this week is the blood. Blood is a liquid connective tissue responsible for transporting nutrients and wastes throughout the body. If there is a problem with the blood, you will see its effects through the entire body. If blood fails to carry nutrients to or wastes away from body tissues, the tissues will be either starve or be poisoned by accumulated wastes. Understanding the composition of blood will enhance your understanding of its function in the body and help you comprehend how its dysfunction will cause a domino effect in the body.

By the end of this week's lab, you should be able to:

  1. Describe the composition of blood and the function of each component.
  2. List types of tests used to study blood and identify the diseases they are used to diagnose.
  3. Conduct ABO and Rh blood typing and understand how blood type impacts blood transfusions.
